Dear debating community,
In conjunction with the SASDB, I would like to invite experienced candidates to apply for a position on the 2014 SANSDC Chief Adjudication Panel. Successful candidates will be required to serve on the CAP at the NSDC from the 13th till the 18th of December.
I am looking to appoint a CAP of 4 people, with the possibility of increasing the number to five, depending on the quality of applications. Applications will be accepted from Tuesday, the 1st of July until Thursday the 31st of July. Successful candidates will be notified by Thursday the 7th of August.
Requirements and responsibilities
As part of the CAP this year, DCAs will be involved with adjudication training and policy, setting panels, tabbing, and dealing with adjudication complaints. Accepting a position on the CAP means that you are committing to taking part in email discussions about adjudication policy ahead of the tournament and will need to be able to access and use Google Drive regularly.
It is important to note that as a member of the CAP, you will also be involved in the motion-setting committee. However, unlike in previous years, the CAP will not actually be directly setting motions for this tournament. Instead, the CAP will be providing oversight to ensure that sufficient motions of a high enough standard are set for the tournament.
Finally, you must commit to attending the SANSDC 2014 from the 13th of December till the 18th of December 2014 in the Western Cape.
Application Process
The application must include ALL of the following:
1. A full debating CV including your name and contact details, as well as your experience in World Schools Style Debating only. Please separate your speaking, judging and organizational experience (including tabbing) into three separate sections. Two reputable debating references (include their names, email addresses and cellphone numbers) should also be included.
2. A brief letter of motivation for you application (no more than a page).
3. A short paragraph on what you believe adjudicator training should focus on at NSDC.
4. A list of three motions, with a brief explanation of why each is appropriate, for: the junior category, the senior category, and the senior Plate final.
If any of the above is missing the application will be deemed incomplete and no late applications will be accepted.
Please email all questions and applications to Tristan von Zahn at tvonzahn@gmail.com and forward this to any interested parties.
I look forward to receiving and considering your application.
Kind regards,
Tristan von Zahn
Chief Adjudicator
