Call for applications: SA junior coach

At the 2013 AGM, the SASDB governing body voted in a new measure to introduce a national junior team. The junior team will function much the same way as the SA team, including a trials process and the attendance of one international tournament. A junior trialists squad was selected at SANSDC 2013 by the main selection panel.

This is a call for applications for the position of the South African Junior National Coach. The coach will be responsible for selecting and coaching the 2014 junior team, and taking them to an international tournament.

To apply, applicants are required to submit:
1) A debating CV and brief motivation;
2) An outline of their plans for the next 2 years (where they’ll be,
what they’ll be doing, etc);
3) A coaching plan outlining their ideas for training sessions, etc.
4) A letter of motivation, including their thoughts on coaching and being responsible for young children (grade eights and nines).

Please ensure that all applications are in by Monday 3 February. Please send all applications to sasdbinfo@gmail.com.

The NEC will then vote on the applications we receive and the appointment will be announced before Friday 7 February. Please send can this to whoever else you think will be interested. We are really hoping to receive as many high level applications as we can!

Dear Members of the South African Schools’ Debating Community

This is a call for applications for positions on the executive committee. There are three positions open for applications: President, Funding Officer and Operations Officer.

From my experience on the SASDB executive committee, it is incredibly rewarding to play a central role in developing and maintaining schools debating in South Africa. I encourage everyone to send this call for applications to everyone in their debating mailing lists and to seriously considering applying for these positions. Schools debating in South Africa only survives because of the hard work of people like you!

  • provide leadership to the Board;
  • provide general secretarial services to the Board;
  • monitor the performance of the Executive Committee;
  • along with the Operations Officer, oversee the occurrence of the annual National Schools Debating Championships (NSDC); provide quarterly reports to the Board on the Board’s general activities.

The Operations Officer shall serve a term of two years, and shall be responsible for the execution of the core programme of the SASDB in the following ways:

  • ensuring clear communication systems exist within the Board;
  • along with the President, overseeing the occurrence of, but not fundraising for, the NSDC in line with the official NSDC rules (annexure B);
  • act in accordance with the duties set out in the Terms of Appointment (annexure C).

The Funding Officer shall serve a term of two years, and shall source funding for the Board’s core programme, specifically for:

  • the NSDC;
  • the SASDA;
  • the South African Schools Debating Team’s (SASDT) participation in the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC).

To apply please send a debating specific CV and a letter of motivation to sasdbinfo@gmail.com before midnight on Monday 2 December.

Open call for selectors

The selection panel will be responsible for selecting the South African Open Squad at SASNDC 2013 in Johannesburg. Adjudicating at nationals is a pre-requirement for serving on the selection panel.

It should be noted that each province shall have one reserved spot on the selection panel so as to ensure that all participating provinces are represented.

Interested candidates should please submit their application to Luke Churchyard (Lchurchyard@fnb.co.za) including a brief debating CV by the 1st of December 2013.

I look forward to your responses.

Kind regards,
Luke Churchyard
